Josiane Perron

Wow, summer is HERE in all its humid glory. When it's this hot and humid I go into a panic and can only think about what to do/wear to stay cool. Being a clothing designer I immediately think "COTTON. MUST. WEAR. COTTON" but perhaps many of you don't know/care about textiles, and are wondering what the heck I'm talking about....Well, for hot/humid weather cotton can rarely be beat (linen, silk and bamboo are pretty on par though, see a trend with the natural fibres?). You may think that cute little chiffon dress will be the coolest thing to wear when it's +30, but in reality the dress is probably polyester chiffon (perhaps you're lucky and it's silk?) and no matter how skimpy your little chiffon dress is, a cotton dress will always keep you cooler.

SO, on that note, I want to recommend the cute dresses and tops from Josiane Perron. This collection is full of preppy/feminine pieces that look great paired up with leather sandals/oxfords, vintage belts and summer hats. Josiane is also an incredible patternmaker, and all of her stuff fits amazingly well, and has great little thoughtfully placed pleats and tucks.

See you all this weekend!

Anyone there? Bueller? Bueller?

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I've blogged, so I have to say THANK YOU to Tyson for taking up the blogging responsibilities over the last while, it's been crazy around here to say the least. I can't spill the beans quite yet on ALL the exciting things that are about to happen with my line (Norwegian Wood) but I can spill on a few things so you'll know I'm not lying when I say I've been super busy!

-First of all the Norwegian Wood Black Elastic Harness will be available in US retailer Free People (big sister of Urban Outfitters) in the coming months, so stay tuned for more info soon!
-I've been collaborating with Marc Simard of Broundoor over the last few weeks, we've come up with a way to make a leather version of the cage skirt, so watch for that soon as well (see photo above)
- I'm working on a super limited edition set of harnesses and fringe necklaces for GORGEOUS online vintage shop Shrimpton Couture, stay tuned for more on that in the coming weeks as well!
-For all you Winnipeggers I've got two things on the horizon:
First of all Marc (see above) and I will be heading out for the Winnipeg Folk Festival (July 8-12), so watch out for us there, we're a corner booth operating under the collective name "WeMade", stop by and say hi!
Secondly, I'm proud to announce that Norwegian Wood has its first Winnipeg stockist, The Urban Boutique! I'll be bringing down a bunch of fringe necklaces, fringe earrings and feather necklaces on the 7th of July, so now you know where to get your NW fix in the Peg.

So that's about it for now, I promise posting will be back up to par, I've got a whole bunch of designer profiles to put up in the next few weeks!

Happy Belated Birthday Maurice Sendak!!!

One of my all time favorite illustrators and story tellers just turned 81 this month! (June 10) I am one of the hundreds of thousands of people who can say with out of doubt that "Where The Wild Things Are" has been a fave since the first time my Mother read it to me. Happy Birthday Mr. Sendak and thank you, thank you, thank you!

When I saw the trailer for the upcoming film, I was literally tearing up.

An original drawing that is going for $6500. (My birthday is February 2nd. In case you were wondering)

Thanks to all who came out to celebrate our 3rd year! I dropped the ball and did not take a single picture. But artist Scott Ferry had his act together and snapped a few pics early in the evening.
