Aya Kakeda is here!

Yay! Aya Kakeda's train just pulled in last night. After a nice dinner, some drinks (not counting the Bang-Bang Tequila) and a walk for ice cream, we decided it was time for a little work. So we put on "Army of Darkness" and sat down for a little drawing sesh to do the finishing touches on a few pieces for the "Birds of Montreal" show this Friday. Hope to see you all there!

This Saturday is "Buy Something Local Day"

Suzanne Dyson, owner of Ko Clothes and Sabrina Maissoneuve, manager of Marche MTL gathered together a group of small, independent, Montreal businesses to bring to life "Buy Something Local Day".

We are a group of independent Montreal businesses and we want to fight this recession. Shoppers are nervous and we are feeling the pinch. They are spending less in small independent neighbourhood businesses and seriously jeopardizing our survival, with some who have already closed shop.

Buy Local Day will be held Saturday April 25th in effort to make consumers aware of their power to sustain their beloved neighbourhood businesses that make up not only the backbone of the Canadian economy, but supply the charm and warmth of a community.

We, small independent stores, are also creating jobs and helping the economy roll. If we go under, the economy does too.

See you this Saturday!

Etsy is Coming to Montreal!

Hey all you Montreal crafters, guess who's coming to our fair city? The wonderful folks from Etsy! As part of their initiative to learn more about the global Etsy community they're continuing their world-wide journeys, and this time they're stopping in Canada (Toronto and Montreal). They're basically trying to learn everything they can about the Canadian Etsy seller and what can be done to improve the selling/buying experience.

Three peeps from Etsy will be coming up on May 2nd (Toronto on May 1st) including Sara Hicks, Etsy's VP of Product, Chad Dickerson, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Liz Wald director of international business development. Want to be part of this great meet up? HQ is happy to be hosting this event, so give us a quick RSVP in the comments if you're interested, then come on down Saturday May 2nd (yes, the day after our May vernissage) and let's have a chat in the gallery about our favorite handmade site. All folks are welcome, even if you haven't RSVPd, we'd just like to get an idea of how many croissants to buy and how many chairs to set up. The meet-up goes from 11am-1:30pm, so set your alarms and get down to HQ, you can get up early on a Saturday just this once!

Where: Headquarters Galerie + Boutique 1649 Amherst
When: 11am-1:30pm
Why: because you love Etsy

8tracks!

I was pretty bummed when Muxtape (RIP) was shut down last Summer by the douche nozzles at the RIAA. But now we have www.8track.com to fill the empty void in my heart that only a mixtape by a loved one can fill.

The idea is easy, upload 8 songs to your mix and share with the world. I didn't go with any type of theme for my first 8track, just listen and have fun. I'll be doing a new one every week.

I love you so much,

Aaaaaand.....WE'RE BACK!

HQ is back to regular store hours, Tyson has had a nice 3 day vacation and is back to business. I thought this would also be a good time to mention to a few curious ladies that we have in fact received more stock from Valerie Dumaine, including two super cute styles of shorts. One pair is a great cotton/spandex sailor short, while the other has a lineny look and has a amazing pleated paper bag waist. For now you can slip them on with some fun coloured tights, and within a few weeks we'll all be walking around in bare legs, soaking up the sun!

Lots of love from Design*Sponge!

If you're any kind of self-respecting blog reader/home decor fan, you will probably have heard of Design*Sponge, the fabulous home decor blog started by New Yorker Grace Bonney. Design*Sponge is probably one of the first blogs I started reading, which says a lot for any of you who know how many blogs I currently follow. It started as a teeny blog on a classic blogspot polka dot background with posts on all the great new products coming out of the sphere of home decor. It's now grown into a beautifully designed website with guest columnists (DIYs, a floral feature, etc) as well as great house tours, before & afters and an ever growing list of city shopping guides.

So as you may guess I was OVER THE MOON to see that with the help of Marie-Eve of Lake Jane, Grace has just released the Montreal City Guide, and low and behold none other than our little HQ Galerie + Boutique has been included in the guide! I take this as a huge compliment seeing as both Marie-Eve and Grace both have impeccable taste. Go ahead and check out the guide HERE, it really points out some gems that will be interesting for both Montrealers and visitors alike!
