My monster can beat up your monster

If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?

If I could legally marry a website maybe I would!

Yeah, I named him "Super Dude", so what?

Oh boy! This ones gonna be a time sinker! I came across this website through a friend of HQ (Thanks Tahnee) and I've found myself obsessed! The general idea behind Bubole is to create your own custom monster with all the appendages and body parts provided (via an exquisite corpse style workshop) give it a name and then battle it against other users.

The battle system consists of just hammering on the spacebar to hit until one of the mosters heads flies of and a bloody geiser errupts from the stump. It's surprisingly satisfying to get that win, let me tell you.And if you're worried that once you log out, you will lose your monster, then let me put your mind at ease. You can save all of your little creatures to fight another day whenever you log in next!

There is also a chat feature where you can talk with other "Frankensteins", a gallery to check out all the other creations and a fun little bug squashing mini game.

See you in the ring!!!

The Dice Show opens tomorrow night!

We're working on some final touches right now for tomorrows "Dice Show" by the En Masse collective.

The Dice show will be a unique experience for the viewer and the participants as the show will literally evolve and shift throughout the month. Teaming up with local design mega-stars, Furni, the main piece consist of forty-five 2' x 2' panels mounted on the wall. There will be 3 evening sessions throughout May (the 6th. 13th & 20th), which everyone is invited to drop by, say hello and watch as the piece grows. At the end of each session, dice will be rolled and the results dictate the placement of the panels, mixing up the the work and morphing the overall piece into something new each week.

The final results of the piece can be seen on Friday, May 28th here at HQ at the Dice Show finishing party. All are welcome to stop by for drinks, art and fun times AND music by Michelle Storey.

We have also teamed up with Blank apparel & Moniker to create a series of one of a kind t-shirts that will also be available on the evening of the finishing party.

One of my favorite blogs that I check every day is Drawn! And yesterday, they brought to my attention that May 16th was the 20th anniversary of Jim Henson's death. And while I usually don't like to focus on death anniversaries but be more drawn towards birthdays, this did make me think about how shitty it is that such an awesome man has passed on well before his time. I was talking about this with a friend of mine last night and we both realized that there are adults walking around that have probably never heard the name Jim Henson before. How bonkers is that?! Are you that person? Do you have a friend that is that person? How sad is their dull emotionless life? Do they shuffle around every day, just going through the motions like some kind of programmed, loveless robot? I'm sure they do.

My BFF Angie bought me this from the Muppet Whatnot Workshop in NY this past February. How awesome is that? Better than any gift you got in the past year I bet!

Below are a few pieces from a series of characters from Fraggle Rock that I did just for funsies..

And here are a couple from The Dark Crystal....

So, if you know of anyone who needs some good vibes in their life, sit them down and watch one of the seasons of the Muppet Show together. And keep your eyes peeled for the next Jim Henson contest I'll be doing on his birthday! This is last years installment: http://hqgalerieboutique.blogspot.com/2009/09/jim-henson.html

I love you,

The Dice Show's 2nd drawing session tonight

That's right, the second drawing session is tonight! We will be starting around 6 pm so please feel free to come by and watch the progress. But before the drawing begins we will be rolling some dice that will dictate the shuffling of the 45 panels.
This should be interesting to see how the next batch of artists work this into their own contribution.
If you want to get a glimpse of the work before it's shuffled, the gallery is open for all who wish to swing by.
I love you all.

The Dice Show

I love being a nerd. If there is an opportunity to force my nerdy-ness on others, I will never hesitate! So, I was thrilled with the idea of doing the dice show.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the En Masse Crew, the general idea behind the collective is to bring together artists from many backgrounds to work on large scale, black and white murals, each bringing their own style to the project but also merging into each others work to create a totally new aesthetic.

This piece is still at Eaton's Center.

The Dice show consisits of forty-five 2' x 2' panels, which we constructed last weekend at the Furni Creations shop.
There will be three drawing session, which the public is more than welcome to watch, on May 6th, 13th & 20th from 6 pm until 9 pm. After the end of each session, a set of dice will be rolled and the results will determine the placement of the tiles for the next session. Keeping this in mind. each artist will have to take into consideration each panels strength on it's own (they will sell individually for $200) and how it works overall with the rest of the panels.

It will be interesting to see how the larger piece literally morphs each week as the drawings grow and the panels are shuffled. The gallery will be open all month for you to come a track the En Masse crews progress.

And don't forget, on the 28th of May, there will be a finishing party here at HQ.

See you soon!
