Heppy Jim Henson's Birthday!!

Today is Jim Henson's birthday. When (not if, get ready) I'm boss of the world, I'm going to move Christmas to September 24th. It seems to be a more fitting way to guilt people into being nice to one another, seeing as Jim Henson was never one to put someone out (which kind of resulted in his death.)
So, to celebrate an awesome man, we're doing another Henson Contest!

Last year was pretty easy, so this year I'm going to make it a little tougher. If you can name the Muppets listed below, you can win a little prize from HQ. I know these may be hard, so try and name as many as you can.

1.
You just need the name of these creatures not the name of each individual one for this one.

Like I said, it's tough! The winner will be the first to get them all right or failing that the person who can name the most before the end of the day.Email me the answers to HQgalerieboutique@gmail.com
The picture above is my Muppet Whatnot. These things are the best ever! You can make you own here

Happy Jim Henson's Birthday everyone!

Intervention time! Help me Mr. President!

I think it's time for an intervention.  Angie has become infatuated and obsessed. It's beginning to worry me and I don't know who to turn to!
It seems we cannot go shopping without Angie going bananas for President's Choice products. (Ironically, not so much for actual bananas though. But could you imagine? It would be a never ending loop of craziness, like a snake eating it's own tail.)
I think she's become delirious. You can often hear her comment "Oh, look what the President chose just for me!" before dropping the packaged item in our cart. She has even taken to calling me "El Presidente" and whenever she orders food at a restaurant, while pointing at the menu, she will ask the server "If you were president, what item would you choose?" New designs from Josiane Perron now at HQ, come get them before the President does!

Won't you come and smell me?

Do I smell like an old man, a teenager or a weird dude in his thirties that's nostalgic for his hormone fueled high school days? The reason I ask is as of last December, I've been obsessed with cologne I used to wear in junior high.

Like most 16 year old boys, I used to practically bathe in the stuff. I mean, I could clear a room! Maybe it's a good thing because if you've ever been on a bus packed with a bunch of teenagers on a hot sweaty day, it gets pretty ripe. So maybe it's just an instinctual thing kids do to mask their greasy, horny stink.
At any rate, as I approached my late 20's I began to grow a distaste for heavy colognes. Don't know why, just did. Until now. Don't get me wrong, I don't slather on a bottle of Polo or anything like that, I like to think it's subtle... or pray to God it is.
But that seems to be where I'm at these days. It's kind of fun because I've had friends guess what I'm wearing because they recognize it from their stinky teen years. I'm not going to say what the scents are but next time you see me, give me a whiff, why don't you?
All the photos above are of my prints and an illustrated book from my  Monsterbet series. What started off as a little drawing for my niece and nephew, turned into some fun products. They are all available in my Etsy shop or here at HQ.                                                                                            Smell ya later!!!

Vacation hours

We're heading out tomorrow afternoon on a magical tour of Eastern Canada. My Mother booked a week long stay at a cabin in PEI 3 YEARS AGO!!! So, we're finally going to take this trip and I'm pretty excited. It's the first time I've been out east, so it will be nice to finally have seen our country from coast to coast. But don't worry, the lovely, Emily Paris will be keeping things under control while we're gone!

So, for your convenience, here are our vacation hours:
Friday September 10,  12 - 6pm
Saturday Sept 11, 11-6pm
Sunday September 12, CLOSED
Monday September 13, 12-6pm
Tuesday September 14, 12-6pm
Wednesday September 15, CLOSED
Thursday September 16, 12-6pm
Friday September 17, 12-6pm
Saturday September 18, 11-6pm
Sunday September 19, CLOSED

Then back to normal as of Monday September 20!

Whenever I think of Eastern Canada, 90's rock is the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe it's unfair, because there are a crap load of amazing bands coming out of there these days but the old Murderecords bands will always have a warm spot in my heart.

Here is something for your heart: http://8tracks.com/hqgalerieboutique/heading-out-east

Closed for Labor Day

Is there anything better than having a surprise, forced day off? I just realized, yesterday morning that Monday was Labor Day and which also means I'm not allowed to have the shop open. So, it looks like a nice day of drawing, beer and magic times.

Have a good long weekend everyone!

I'm uncomfortable and sweaty, so don't touch me

Well it's no big news that's it's hot as shit out right now, so I won't bore you with a post about the weather. But whenever it gets this gross outside (and inside, unfortunately) I have a hard time being motivated or inspired to get things done. The fact that I'm doing a blog post at all seems crazy to me. So, keeping that in mind, I thought I would share with you five of my favorite blogs and websites that are an amazing source for inspiration or just good time sinkers.

Gollum
#5
Illustrations of The Hobbit by Mikhail Belomlinskiy 1976 Russia
Oh man-sies! This is amazing! Although, this isn't really an official updated site, I often find myself going over these images again and again. The style reminds me of another Russian illustrator named Genndy Tartakovsky, the man behind Samurai Jack!

#4
Monsterbrains
A celebration of all things monster! I love this blog! It's updated daily and has introduced me to dozens of amazing artists from around the globe (including my #5 pick).

Covered version by Jimmy Giegerich and original by George Wilson; Gold Key 1977
#3
Covered is one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" blogs. An amazing concept by illustrator Robert Goodin, where artists submit their versions of classic or new comic book covers. The results are always awesome and I often feel a hankering for drawing after dipping into his blog.... wait, did that sound pervy?

Illustration by Gene Foote and "The Quagmire Beast" from The Tomb Of Terror 1952
#2
The Horror Of It All and And Everything Else are two blogs run by a dude named Karswell from the USA. He doesn't offer much info about who he is and what else he does but what I do know is that on his Horrorofitall blog he painstakingly scans full issues of old EC (and EC style rip offs) comics and posts them for the masses to enjoy! I could spend days going through the pile of amazing books on display here! Andeverythingelse is similar type of blog but instead of focusing on the horror side of vintage culture he showcases old Children's books, commercial art from the 50's and 60's, vintage magazines, etc. These two blogs can easily kill an afternoon.... You've been warned.

Drawn!  is a no-brainer. I'm sure most of you already know of this amazing collaborative blog. A daily dose of links to amazing illustrators, animators and artists from around the globe. There is always something new and fun to look at, so if you have yet to visit the site, hop to it!

There are a few more amazing sites that are a must read for those grey dull days or the opposite, "it's so hot out, I'm going to barf" afternoons but I figured most of these were sites that are all pretty well know. But for those of you that have yet to discover these gems, remember me at Christmas:
